Cherry Scone Ingredients

  • 225g self-raising flour
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 50g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 75g dried cherries
  • 1 large egg
  • 75ml milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional: extra milk for brushing

Instructions Of Cherry Scone Recipe

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan oven or Gas Mark 6) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift the self-raising flour and add the caster sugar and a pinch of salt. Mix well to combine.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Stir in the dried cherries until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  • In a separate small bowl, beat the egg and milk together.
  • Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the egg and milk mixture. Use a fork to gradually bring the mixture together until it forms a soft dough. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it until it comes together.
  • Pat the dough out to a thickness of about 2cm. Use a floured 5cm round cutter to cut out the scones, pressing straight down without twisting the cutter.
  • Place the scones onto the prepared baking tray, leaving a little space between each one. If desired, brush the tops of the scones with a little extra milk to help them brown in the oven.
  • Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes or until the scones are golden brown.
  • Once baked, transfer the scones to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter, clotted cream, or jam!

These cherry scones are best enjoyed fresh on the day they are made, but they can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the oven or microwave before serving if desired.
